Mirrorless Full Frame Comparison: Sony A7m3 vs Nikon Z vs Canon R

There is a development that may disturb Sony, the undisputed leader of the full-frame mirrorless market, at the end. While Nikon re-enters the Mirrorless market with two full-frame cameras, Canon does not stand still and they explain the full-frame mirrorless models one after another. Nikon announced the mirrorless Full Frame Z6 and Z7 and Canon announced the EOS R. Finally!!! First of all, I always wondered why companies such as Nikon or Canon, who have a serious say in the camera market, started to become a favorite of the ‘Mirrorless’ and when the user turned towards the ‘Mirrorless’, they did not produce Full Frame machines according to their needs. Beyond my curiosity, I wished and requested the launch of such products. Although Nikon entered the mirrorless market as the J1 and V series as Nikon 1, and Canon as the EOS M, they could not bring enough sound. Especially Nikon announced that it had stopped production earlier this year. Obviously the supply was not enough; their rivals were also very strong. And with the sensors with a crop multiplier of 2.7x, he added the lens stenosis and disadvantages of the small sensor, so he could not push the tops in the competition. Another reason for completing the old series was the fullframe preparations; we understood. Although the Canon EOS-M was more demanding than Nikon1, it could not literally appeal to professionals and never passed its own DSLR.

Nikon full-frame mirrorless as seen can be seen in the improved version of Nikon DSLRs. As if the Z6 is the continuation of the D750 and the Z7 is the continuation of the D850. Sony A7 vs Nikon Z6-Z7 vs Canon R Key Differences

1. Battery Capacity: Sony +

When the table is examined, we can see that although the brands are different, their properties are close. The point where technology comes from really pushes the boundaries. There are, of course, a few basic differences between these cameras equipped with the highest technology. The most obvious difference is the new generation battery capacity starting with Sonya7 m3. As it is known, the most important disadvantage of mirrorless is battery life. This is a subject that users have been angry and criticized for a long time. With the a7m3 released at the very beginning of Sony 2018, it seems to have almost overcome the battery problem. While over 700 photos can be taken with one battery, Nikon and Canon will not focus on the battery while they are on the road, which can perform as much as the battery life of a normal mirror. While I couldn’t overcome the mediocre with only 310-370 shots, I also wonder how they will overcome this problem in the future. Sony had waited about 6 years because…

2. Memory Card:  Sony +

The second lack of Nikon and Canon stands out as the absence of a double card slot. Of course this may not be a problem. But it can be very important for professionals. While Sony is now able to show up with a double slot in the third series, this is one of the things CANIKON should do. Anyway; I think that having double slots can increase the value of brands and I go through extension.

3. Second screen: Canon + Nikon +

Another feature of Nikon and Canon that I have said absolutely done is the top LCD information display. I have also mentioned this situation, which we are not used to in Sony, as criticism. It is clear that a tiny LCD screen will make it easier to use. These screens, which facilitate the work we are used to, DSLR have been further developed in the mirrorless machines we are talking about. Sony has not even placed this screen on the A7m3. 4. Video: Sony + Nikon + Canon +

We see that the video features are close to each other, after making detailed examinations, I pass blindly because it is a subject I can go into in depth. Each of them has reached 4K resolution, has microphone and headphone inputs, 10-bit log systems, and it is an indicator that quality videos can be taken with these machines. Canon and Sony can only shoot in HD resolution, while 120p can slow down shooting in Nikon and Sony Full HD resolution. This can be a serious deficiency. Although Canon appears to be a little behind in theory, I guess the difference will be noticeable when using it.

5. Screen: Nikon + Canon +

Another difference I can write one more plus on CaNikon is its screen and electronic viewfinder. Both the screen and viewfinder offer more resolution. Also, their screens are 0.2 ” larger than Sony. I write ‘+’ to Canon in terms of direction of movement. It makes a difference to Sony and Nikon with its screen system that can be rotated in all directions. I am also writing ‘-‘ to Sony; because the screen resolution is even lower than in Series 2. While the CaNikon offers 2100K, the Sony 7m3 is only 921k.

6.Focus Point: Sony +

While the number of focus points says, “There will be no more time to pour water on Sony,” Canon’s number of confusing spots is still not understood. An astronomical number such as 2556 is mentioned, which I think is unavailable and unnecessary. There is another 143, though, according to different sources. This number is also normal. The Nikon Z7 once again shows itself as a tough opponent with 493 focus points. Because even a7Rm3 has 425 focus points. However, with a number of 693 focus points, the Sony a7 iii is far ahead.

7.Anti-vibration system – iBiS: Sony + Nikon +

I want to end with a feature that Nikon used for cameras first but not Canon: vibration blocking from the 5-axis sensor. Finally, I saw it in Nikon or it increases to me !!! Olympus, Fujifilm, Panasonic, especially Sony, started to use 10 years ago. Frankly, I want to see that this feature that works very well in Sony can be used without any trouble and trouble in Nikon. This system is even better than the anti-vibration system in the lenses. In addition, the cost to be added to each lens is also avoided. There was a vibration system when shooting videos on Canon !!! Why not when taking pictures … 🙁

8.Lens Range: Sony +

At the points where we used to criticize Sony mount, we will now criticize the CaNikon ff mirrors. This time the Nikon mirrors use Z mount and Canon uses RF mount. They would have around 10 lenses by the end of 2020. 10 lenses will not be configured for professional users. Maybe FTZ, the autofocus adapter that converts to a bit Z mounta, and the 3-just eos r- ef adapter in Canon seems to do more work than these lenses. Old lenses can be used with these adapters. In fact, some of the adapters in Canon can be fitted with a filter or something. As it is known in Sony, there are 4 adapters of LEA-series … We can live connected to more adapters when it is not connected.

9.Price: Canon + Sony +

Coming to pricing: Expensive. The Nikon Z6 went on display for $ 2,000 and the Z7 for $ 3400. Eos R was launched at $ 2300. I have gold dust in Z7, which is 1400 dollars more expensive than Z6, actually. A similar situation existed in the a7 and a7R series, but I don’t know if there was such a difference. These prices are low to be preferred by amateurs. Sony a7 m3 is sold for around $ 2000. The updated price of eos r is 1800 dollars. The Nikon Z6 has been updated to $ 2100 and the Z7 to $ 3100.

The burst rate is 12 frames per second in Z6, while it drops to 9 frames in Z7. Although there is not much difference, I wondered why there is no 12 fps in Z7. While it was 5 fps in the first two series in Sony, it was increased to 10 fps in the last series cameras. Canon eos R offers 8 fps performance. As you can see, the numbers are very close and difficult to choose. Since it is close to each other, it will not be unethical to choose a side as a superiority.

The existence of wifi and bluetooth connections are essential features for remote connection and remote control. I have experienced this feature which I apply very frequently in Sony and it is easy to use, in Nikon on D5300. Even though I don’t personally try Canon, users are satisfied. I think Sony’s application is more useful between Nikon and Sony. But that doesn’t mean that Nikon’s is useless. In addition, Sony has the ability to install applications on cameras. This has been on Sony cameras for years. I have never seen such an issue in Canon and Nikon. Whether the situation is different in mirrorless is not yet known. It is also nice to upgrade the machines, I would love to have them in Canon and Nikon.

It’s not a very important detail, but I wanted to mention it anyway: the flash sync speed in Canon and Nikon is max 1/200, while Sony is also 1/250. That means Sony can sync faster. If you are going to use simple flash without an hss feature with an open aperture lens, especially in sunny daytime conditions, Sony will be more advantageous than the ear in the camel. While criticizing the ready flash, I criticize the absence of the built-in flash in all the products mentioned. If he were settled, he could save lives in difficult times.
As for the Sony a7R m3, the Nikon Z7 comes with Anti Ailas (LowPass) unfiltered. Megapixel also has similar features. While the A7Rm3 is at 42mp resolution, the Z7 has a resolution of 45.7 mp. This is not the case with Canon eos R and other Sony models. The absence of this filter offers sharper images at high resolutions.

Another privilege that I liked in Nikon and Canon was that the camera fit better with DSLR. Especially the Canon eos R. Sony has developed itself in this regard after the first a7, and although it has come very close to the ideal, it has solved the problem from the beginning thanks to Canon and Nikon’s photographic Backgrounds. Also, although it is a relative concept, its shapes are more pleasant than Sony; I have to admit.
